Fire Horse is a game that is offered by IGT, and it’s going to give you action that takes place on 5 reels, with the winning combinations forming on 720 ways to win instead of paylines.
The action seems to take place in a fantasy setting, at least that’s the impression we get based on the elemental horses (fire and water) and on the crystals, coins, pottery and orbs which are part of the symbol line-up.
I was not impressed with the design of Fire Horse, but the game is different from its competitors in a lot of ways, and some of those differences could be advantages. The slot can pay up to 1,000x the line bet back, which is not impressive normally, but seems alright for a slot with 720 ways to win.
What We Love
The idea of the game is normally a good one, and fantasy themed slot machines tend to look great, and to be lots of fun. Fire Horse doesn’t seem to have any big ideas behind it though, if you look past the fire horse symbol. There isn’t much of a back story there, so all you get is some elements, with the focus being on fire, something you see in the background as well.
The layout is an unusual one, with five reels which are of different sizes. You get the biggest reel in the middle, the 3rd reel having five symbols on it.
The 2nd and 4th reels are next, with four symbols each. Finally, the 1st and 5th reels get only three symbols. The game forms combinations through ways to win, so you just need matching icons on consecutive reels. Luckily, this can happen both starting from the left and from the right.
The stacked wild is used on the middle three reels (2, 3 and 4). You can use this symbol as a substitute, if it happens to land on the reel where you need it. Luckily, the ways to win system makes it easy to take advantage of the wild’s power.
With five Purple Orb symbols, you can trigger a free spins feature, with 8 rounds awarded to the player for each such combo. Since multiple Orb symbols can be present on each reel, you can form multiple combinations and get as many as 240 free spins at the same time. There is an opportunity to retrigger the free spins, if you happen to land Blue Orb symbols.
What We Do Not Like
I’m not a fan of the design of Fire Horse. Though the idea could work, the implementation was pretty bad, and the game looks like something you would’ve played 10 years ago, not like a slot machine released in 2016.
It’s a different experience that you get here, compared with most slot machines, and that’s due to the layout, the many ways to win, or the features.
