Secrets of Atlantis is a gorgeous new release from NetEnt, but it is not an original choice, its theme being based on the city of Atlantis, mentioned in the legends of Ancient Greece as having sunk into the sea, together with its prosperous population. Whether Atlantis actually existed or not is another matter.
The game mixes that sunken Atlantis theme with the ocean life, and even has symbols which mix the two. Symbols appear to be especially interesting, with Colossal symbols, with re-spins, nudge wilds and highlight features. It’s a game with 40 lines on 5 tall reels. The payout appears to be going up to 8,000 coins.
What We Love
As always when it comes to slot machines which are designed by NetEnt, the graphics are among the big advantages it has over the competition. Though there are plenty of Atlantis themed slot machines already, chances are that this particular game will be one of the better looking ones. You should expect a slot machine which has only themed symbols, no poker cards here. It starts with a Mermaid, continues with a pearl, and then some creatures of the sea (crabs, turtles and jellyfish). The low paying icons get images of jewelry that is designed to mimic the three sea life icons.
One advantage that this slot has is the ability to pay starting from either side of the screen. Though normal slot machines need their symbols to appear from left to right, this one gives you the right to left option as well. It’s not going to be useful when it comes to five symbol combos, since those touch both sides anyway, but with three or four symbol wins it could prove valuable.

At times, when the stacked symbols occupy enough positions, you might get the Colossal symbols to trigger, along with the re-spins which they bring with them.
A Highlight feature is mentioned as well by the developers, but we don’t know exactly how it will work right now.
The feature that is closest to a regular one is the wild symbol, though even that one is designed to work differently. It’s a Nudge Wild, meaning that the Mermaid which represents it will be moved into place, so it occupies the entire reel, if it happens to land on only some of the icon positions.
What We Do Not Like
I would’ve liked a better payout, assuming that the 8,000 coins jackpot is what you’re offered. It means only 800x, so it’s on the low side.
Worth Playing?
Secrets of Atlantis delivers a very good design, along with features you’re not likely to find anywhere else, at least not in this form.
