Hugo is a game that appears to be inspired by some Danish show that was on TV sometime in the 90s.
It’s the second Danish inspired slot from Play N Go, to be released at the same time as Fodseldagen. In this case, we have some kind of weird character, with horns and tall ears, which appears to be mining for gold.
The slot has a type of design which resembles a cartoon, while for its features it will have bonus games, scatters, a wild symbol, multipliers and free spins.
You’re getting only 10 lines though, but with 5 reels for them to be on. The bigger payouts to go after will be at 2,000x.
What We Love
I’d say that the design is a plus for Hugo, even though it’s all done in a cartoon style that is not unusual for a slot machine. You’re going to discover images of gold mining related stuff, including here a pickaxe, but also gold nuggets.
There are a couple of major characters present among the symbols, with Hugo and a cute woman being both used for special feature activation.
Not all the symbols are as OK for this slot machine though, and here I would mostly mention the poker cards which are included in the game, used to pay lower prizes and form combinations.
Hugo’s symbol is the one to watch out for if you’re after the top jackpot, since it will pay 2,000x the line bet if you have five of them arranged on some active line.
Whenever wild symbols manage to be part of new combinations, other than their own, they will double the value of the prizes. You will not get Hugo’s help if a bonus or scatter symbol needs it.
The scatter’s image is that of the angry looking brunette woman, but despite appearances, having her present is a good thing, no matter where those symbols may appear.

You get paid well enough, up to 150x the bet, when up to five scatters are in place. You also trigger the free spins, 5 to 15 rounds available, the pick of the exact number and the extra features which come with them being yours.
The bonus game, the final feature, triggers when there are three treasure chests present on the reels. In this feature, you try to reach a treasure chamber, and you do this by picking doors and hoping that you will not run across Don Croco, the character that ends the feature.
What We Do Not Like
There are aspects to the design which I’m not impressed with, namely the poker cards, and I also am not a fan of the low top payout which comes from the Hugo character.
Worth Playing?
Hugo has its share of advantages, mostly coming through its features and maybe some of its graphics. I’m not terribly happy about the prizes it mentions on the paytable.
