The game is mostly about Egypt though, the Book of Dead being a famous collection of texts written for funerary purposes by priests over a period of over 1,000 years. The developer is called Play’n Go, and the game is a 5 reels/10 paylines title designed for players that use mobile devices. It can pay well enough even in the base game, but the really attractive part is the free spins feature.

What We Love

The best thing by far about this game is not the theme, though the quality is there, but the free spins feature. You’re going to receive 10 spins that you don’t have to pay for when you have the usual 3+ Book of Dead scatters on the reels, and they will give you a chance to land up to 10 combinations with symbols of the same type.

The game does this by choosing one symbol to act as an expanding icon during the free spins. If you land that special icon on all five reels, then all the positions in the game will be of the same type, allowing you to win 10 prizes at the same time. This can even happen with the top jackpot symbol, the one with Rich Wilde on it.

Obviously, prizes tend to be very good when something like this happens, so I’ll count the payout system among my favorites as well. It’s not going to be like this all the time, on the contrary actually, but it does have potential for huge prizes, as high as $500,000 according to the paytable.

What We Do Not Like

It’s difficult to be a fan of the theme that Play’n GO has chosen in this case. Egyptian themed slot machines are a dime a dozen these days, and no developer seems to feel complete if it doesn’t have at least one in their collection.

The fact that they added the Book of Dead or the adventurer to the reels doesn’t change it that much. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a good looking slot machine, it’s just not original enough and if you played Egyptian slot machines before it’s going to feel very familiar.

Worth Playing?

It’s a high variance game, with an average RTP of over 96%, with a boring theme but decent graphics, plus features that can be amazingly fun and profitable if you manage to get them triggered. I expect you will not have a chance to get bored while playing Book of Dead, so I suggest you give it a chance.
