Microgaming Just Launched Suntide Mobile Slot

Suntide is one of the new slots that should come out in March, and it is offered by Microgaming. It’s not immediately apparent that this is a modern slot machine though, as it sports a limited number of paylines (9), placed on the usual 5 reels.

Not only that, but its theme is part inspired by the classic pub slots, and even though there is a focus on the Sun as well, it’s not as visible. To be honest, it’s not a great first impression that the slot makes here, but let’s see what else it has in store for us.

What We Love

I always love having great features in a slot machines, especially if it’s a game like this one, where I expect for plenty of time to pass between wins. One of those features in this case is the wild. It’s a regular wild most of the time, but when it makes an appearance on reel 3, expect it to expand and take it over completely if that will help you get a new winning combination.

The way the wild helps is the usual one. You need matching symbols in place on that payline, with the wild appearing in a location where you’re missing a symbol. If that’s the case, it will substitute for it and you get your win.

The second major feature introduced in Suntide is the round of 15 free spins. To activate it, the game requires that you get three symbols with the Suntide logo on them. Get these symbols, and you will be offered the 15 spins for free, with a chance to retrigger them if another 3+ scatters are present along the way.

The free spins are even better than the base game rounds, if you take into account that the expanding wild is now available on the reels 2, 3 and 4. The other two reels continue to get regular wild symbols.

What We Do Not Like

I’m not as much of a fan when it comes to the classic inspiration of the game, which is based on the idea of the pub slot. You have strawberries, diamonds, golden bells, a gold Bar, sevens, cherries, lemons and other similar symbols, which are used in many other games, but just like in this one, the end result is not great when it comes to the graphics.

Another aspect of the game that I didn’t enjoy was the presence of only 9 paylines on 5 reels, which makes it a game where you might win big if you’re lucky, but most of the time you will simply be bored because nothing happens. It doesn’t even have that many features, so if you bore easily you might find it difficult to keep playing.

Worth Playing?

I for one don’t enjoy this sort of game, and both the theme and the low number of lines contribute to this bad first impression. Microgaming had plenty of similar slot machines in its collection, it didn’t need this one as well.
