Mega Boy is an iSoftBet slot machine, with a design that seems to try to mimic the look of the old Mario games. The theme doesn’t seem to follow a certain game, more of a made up title, but with graphics and characters that do resemble what you would’ve gotten from slot machines back then.
There are some very cool features inside, so it’s not a game that tries to keep things too simple, and that’s something I appreciated about it. The slot holds on its 5 reels a total of 25 paylines. The top prize is worth $400.
What We Love
First of all, you will probably enjoy most of all the design, which seems to be lifted directly out of an 8 bit arcade game that you might’ve played on early computers. You don’t get Mario, or another character from those titles, but you do have a hero and a villain on the reels, represented by a small human and by some sort of horned monster creature.
Don’t expect a retro game with modern graphics. The slot replicated even the look from the games of the 80s on its reels and in the background. You have an image with an area that the character would have to go through in the background, with areas they could fall in, with platforms to jump on and so on.
The symbols that you’re getting here include the two characters in roles of wilds, plus cherries, hearts, stars, bells, sevens and playing cards which have eyes. They’re all done in a low enough resolution to make them appropriate for this game.

Very important parts of the game are the wild symbols, which normally are just ways for you to form combinations without having all the matching symbols. They can’t replace special characters. You have a regular wild, with a cloud like form behind it, and there are two others which can also trigger features.
The Monster character is normally a wild symbol, but that’s only if it doesn’t appear on the middle position of a reel. If it’s in the middle of the reel, then it will trigger 10 free spins with a power-up feature, which can bring you one of several bonuses.
One power-up is a 2x multiplier which is applied to the wins of that spin. Another one places four additional wilds on the reels. Third, we have the extended wild feature. Finally, all symbols of a certain type can turn into wilds.
The Boy, the second character to behave as a wild, will also trigger 10 free games and a power-up feature of its own when it’s in the middle position on a reel. Its power-ups are even better. You can get a 3x multiplier for the spin’s wins, you can get additional wilds to appear diagonally or horizontally, or you can get random symbols to turn into wilds.
What We Do Not Like
The game pays at most 2,000 coins, which means $400 cash. Even though it’s a cheap slot to play, I’d still expect a better payout.
Worth Playing?
If I were you, I’d give this game a chance for the memories that it might bring you. If you played 8 bit arcade games as a kid, Mega Boy might be a fun trip down memory lane.
