The Big Bopper

Theme of The Game

the big booper slot logoThe Big Bopper was the nickname of a singer from the 50s, called Jiles Perry Richardson. He died young, at just 29 years old, in a plane crash in which two other famous singers perished, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly. He was a rock and roll musician, which also mixed in country and rockabilly, a mix that proved quite popular at the time.

His most famous song was Chantilly Lace, which had been released just one year before he passed away. RTG created this branded slot machine, and I have to say that they did an excellent job with it. It has just the right amount of retro in it.

Developer

One of the most experienced companies around, RTG has been around since 1998, and these days they are especially well known because they are one of the few developers to allow US based players to play their games.

They were often pioneers and innovators in the casino industry, being the first ones to include progressive jackpots at a system-wide level, along with multiplayer poker. They offer over 300 games on their platform, many of which are slot machines of the highest quality.

How To Play It

The game has 6 reels, an unusual number, and on them you will find an All Ways system, which is called ways to win by other developers. The combinations form with symbols that are on adjacent reels, and they can start from the leftmost or the rightmost reel. You use bets between $0.30 and $7.50, the idea being that it’s always 30 coins of different values. The maximum line bet is $0.25.

The game’s design is one of its biggest strengths, and I love what RTG managed to do with it. The action takes place in a restaurant or club, with the stage visible in the distance, behind the reels. The reels are in the front, and they are filled with 50s style objects that are related to music. There is even a symbol with The Big Bopper, the musician that inspired the game.

Special Features

Big Bopper, the musician, is visible in the wild symbol, which the slot will use on the four reels from the middle (2, 3, 4 and 5). From that position, the wild substitutes for other symbols, and also applies 3x multipliers. Being a slot with All Ways activated, you just need a wild to be present on the right reel, doesn’t matter in what position.

A second symbol which is important here is a scatter, which can have letters on it, spelling out the word BOPPER on the six reels. You need all six present to trigger the feature. If you get only three to five scatters, you have a re-spin feature, which keeps spinning the reels where you’re missing scatters, until you no longer get results that improve the combo, or until you get all six.

There are three possible features that can trigger, chosen at random, when you have the six scatters in place. The bonus game will offer instant wins, in the range of 20x to 250x the wager value.

The second possibility is the Chantilly Lace Free Spins, where you may get a maximum of 45 spins for free, with a multiplier going up to 10x.

The third option is also with free spins, this time the feature being called White Lightnin’. You keep getting free spins, for as long as the musician keeps singing. The scatter symbols are replaced with Lightning icons during these free spins, and they can pay very well.

Maximum Payouts

The jackpot which is mentioned by the game normally pays 2,000x, which means only $500. With a wild contributing, it goes up to 6,000x, or $1,500. This number can go up further, if you activate free spins of the right kind, which can multiply payouts by up to 10x.

Summary

It’s an exciting game, with plenty of great features, with big multipliers, excellent graphics, so pretty much all you need to enjoy yourself.
