If you have a hankering for Greek mythology-themed mobile slots, you’re spoilt for choice. Greek mythology is one of the more popular slot themes you will come across, so there is certainly no danger of having to scout for hours to find one that suffices. A problem can occur in picking one that is to your liking, though – there are so many to choose from.
This month, Novomatic have made that decision a little less challenging, by releasing what is arguably one of the finest Greek mythology mobile slots yet, under the name of Apollo: God of the Sun.
Apollo: God of the Sun is a rather troublesome game to get in to. Not because it is badly designed, but because any run-of-the-mill Novomatic slot uses features a very basic and primitive gaming structure, and so that is what most of us are used to.
What you actually get with this new game is two sets of 5 reels, one of them standardised, and the other colossal reels. WMS Gaming have done something similar with their Zeus slots, and it would appear to us like Apollo: God of the Sun is meant to be a direct challenger to that crown. Let the battle of gods commence.
How to play
The new mobile slot machine contains a rather sizeable 100-line structure. Of course, it would be too much to ask players to tinker with those lines, so instead, they are going to have to make do with the plain wagering range which is presented to them in the game.
That’s still a very versatile wagering range, though, with players able to splash out as much as $50 a game on the mobile slot, or as little as $0.20 per spin if they wish to play conservatively.

Stacked symbols: There is no quicker way to bag a few bucks than by landing stacked symbols on the reels. Horse and Apollo symbols will do the trick rather nicely, and landing them can see you pocket above average wins in this game. Of course, these aren’t special symbols, though. They appear as helmets and suns.
Wild symbols: What would an Apollo themed slot be without a sun? The glaring sun icon in this mobile game is a wild symbol, and as you may have guessed, it can replace all other symbols barring bonus icons. If the sun symbol should show its face on the third reel it will expand, which often results in more than respectable wins.
Bonus symbol: Now, back to those helmets. These scatter symbols can only show up on reels one, three and five, so they won’t be able to trigger the mobile slot’s bonus quite as easily as you may have liked. Nonetheless, these symbols will trigger a free games bonus when they do appear. Even niftier, it doesn’t matter on which reel set they crop up, either.
Free spin bonus: If you’ve made it to the free spin bonus, you’ll start with between 8 and 20 spins. The free spins themselves are played in much the same way as the base game spins, however wilds suddenly become far more profitable. Wilds appearing on the standard reels can shift over to the colossal reels, then expand downwards, occupying whole reels. It is even possible to have entirely wild colossal reels. Imagine what they can do for your winnings.
Apollo: God of the Sun contains a fair non-progressive jackpot. It is never going to blow you away, but the 250-coin top prize in the mobile slot is respectable, to say the least. The fact that you need to land 5 stacked Apollo symbols to bag it is somewhat challenging.
Graphically, you are unlikely to find a better Greek mythology-themed mobile slot machine than this. Novomatic’s Apollo: God of the Sun is equipped with colossal reels, dirt cheap bets, and wondrous wilds. What’s not to like?
