Microgaming has created a game here that manages to offer a unique theme to the player, which is possible because it is based on an ancient ruler of the Chinese, a character that no other developer has chosen to be inspired by yet.
There are of course a lot of games that will show you things from Chinese culture or history, but they’re not doing the same thing as this game.
The ruler based on which this slot machine was created was called Huangdi, and he is also known as the Yellow Emperor. He ruled thousands of years ago, and the Chinese consider him one of the people that got their civilization started, one of the cosmological deities even.
For this game, Microgaming chose to use symbols that have images of Huangdi, along with a logo, a sword, a medicine box, various instruments, plus a mix of Royals, the poker cards being hand painted with a brush based on how they look.
The image in the background places the action somewhere in China’s mountains, at a temple or castle.
Microgaming doesn’t need a big introduction, it’s the most popular slot developer around these days, and they offer over 500 titles in their collection of such games.
Huangdi is the first game they have designed for 2017, and it looks like a good start to the year, with hopefully more high quality games to follow. You can generally expect that from them, to have a pretty good design, along with great features.
How To Play It
Changing the bets is something you can do from the Bet section, placed right between the displays for Credits and Win. You have 25 lines that you can cover, and you can do that with the help of multiple coins per line, and by changing their denominations.
Huangdi is a game that’s available both for the desktops and for mobile devices. It plays like a regular game of this type, nothing unusual that you need to worry about here.
The design is good overall, especially in the background and in the high paying/feature symbols. It’s less interesting if you look at the poker cards.

One of the things that makes this game a little bit more special is the chance of getting a stacked symbol on reel 1. If this happens, and the stacked symbol covers the reel entirely, then the other symbols of that type, from the other reels, will expand and will take over the positions above and below as well.
You could end up with multiple reels of the same type, which would mean a lot of winning combinations in one go.
Another feature to take advantage of, whenever you get it, is the wild symbol. Sporting an image of Huangdi on it, it is used as a replacement for whatever symbol is required, as long as it’s a regular one and it has the other symbols needed for a combination.
The Dragon symbol would be the scatter icon in this game. You use this one even if the positions it lands in are not on the same line.
They only need to be visible on the reels, at least three times, to get you 15 free spins. The free spins have expanding wilds to offer, so you have even better odds of getting a nice profit from them.
The game mentions that up to 60,000 coins can be won while playing the free spins, which sounds like a pretty good deal.
Huangdi is a promising new slot machine, and also a Microgaming release, so I expect it to be fun to play.
