Theme of The Game

If you grew up during the 80s, or even the 90s, chances are that you’ve played your share of arcade games. Frogged is based on one of those games, on Frogger to be more specific. Frogger was a simple title by today’s standards, where the player was asked to assist a frog in crossing the street.

There are multiple lanes over which the frog had to go, and cars would come in from both sides. You had to move the frog in empty spaces, going from one lane to the next and avoiding cars that would kill it.

Other variants existed as well, some with rivers that had crocodiles and snakes on them, instead of regular roads. The original arcade game was developed by Konami and distributed by Sega, while this slot machine is released by Rival Gaming.

Developer

Rival Gaming was established in 2006, and since then they’ve been creating software and games for the online casino industry. They have some great slots as part of their iSlots collection, plus an advantage is that they allow players from the US to try their games.

They don’t have as many slots as some of their competitors, but there are enough of them to keep you busy for a long time. Some of those slot machines even have progressive jackpots.

How To Play It

With 20 paylines that you can cover, if you want to, the bets can use as many as 200 coins each round. That would mean a line bet of 10 coins at most. The value of the coin goes from $0.01 to $0.25, so you can’t spend more than $2.50 per line, or $50 total for one spin.

The interface might be the usual one, with betting options at the bottom and a Spin button on the far right side, but the design is not typical.

It has a mix of cartoon like cars and frogs which seem to be taken from children’s books, and images with playing cards that seem to belong in the 80s with their pixilated look. It’s a design that I was very satisfied with, and which succeeds at bringing the 80s to your computer screen.

Special Features

The first feature which I would like to cover would be the expanding wild, though it’s not the typical one that you might be used to. This wild, appropriately represented by the image of the frog, will expand upwards only. Just like a frog would jump up, so does this wild expand when there are regular symbols above it. Otherwise, it’s the usual wild feature, which brings you more wins if it lands where it’s needed.

The slot’s round of 7 free spins needs the Bulldozer scatter appearing in 3 or more positions on the reels. You will get from them expanding wilds that now apply 2x multipliers as well, something they didn’t do in the base game.

A retrigger of the free spins takes you to a River Rapids feature. You get free spins there as well, but the layout now has a few different symbols and another wild. You have to take the frog across a river in this case, with obstacles being things like snakes, turtles or crocodiles.

Maximum Payouts

This is the part that I find most difficult to be satisfied with. The Formula 1 car symbol will pay 750x the line bet, which in this case would mean $1,875 at most in the base game. For a slot with 20 paylines, the payout is very low.

Summary

I’d recommend this game for a number of reasons, but you have to keep in mind that the top jackpot is not one of them.
