Space Invaders

The theme that was used in Space Invaders is inspired by the original arcade machine released in 1978, by a Japanese corporation, called Taito. It was then offered under license in the US, through Bally’s Midway division.

The aim in this arcade video game is to defeat alien invaders, by manning and pointing a laser cannon at the waves of creatures that are descending from above.

The graphics were not great, an understatement given the year of the release, with pixels in the objects being easily visible. The slot machine follows the look of the arcade game, with the same retro aliens part of the game, though there are also some symbols which look modern.

Developer

As of the moment of this review, Playtech, the developer of Space Invaders, has 139 slots to offer its players. New titles have been released regularly lately, so you can expect something new from them on a regular basis. The majority of the slots they offer use between 15 and 25 lines, but Space Invaders is a bit different with 10.

The graphics can be great, especially if you go after a branded title, which has a source of inspiration in a movie or comic book. I’d recommend you try titles like Battle of the Gods or Dragon Kingdom.

How To Play It

All we know right now is that the game will come with 10 paylines, and that the wagers will work with 20 lines, requiring twice as much money because the combinations can form both ways. It’s not a great idea on their part, since you get double the odds of forming a combination only when they have three or four symbols. The ones which have five symbols in them will touch both sides anyway.

The look of the game follows that of the arcade video game, showing you a machine that looks like it’s in an arcade gallery. You get the arcade, you can see other machines behind it, while in the game area you have buttons to click on and a screen where the alien symbols appear and form combinations.

Special Features

Though we don’t know everything that the slot will have to offer, we do have wild symbols in this slot machine, that much as been announced already. You get from Space Invaders extra chances to form combos and get paid thanks to this feature, as long as the location of the wild is on an active line with other required symbols in place.

At times, you might see the laser cannon in action, just like in the original game. Should it hit invader symbols, it can transform them into multiplier wilds, improving wins for that round. If it destroys the UFO, then you get a re-spin, with additional wilds locked in place for that round.

Playtech hasn’t announced the maximum payout that will be possible in this game yet, so that part remains to be seen.

Summary

Space Invaders will give you a couple of features that are not built in the usual manner, along with retro graphics that should appeal to fans of the original arcade.
