Theme of The Game
Everyone remembers games like Mario, which were famous in the 80s and 90s, playable on early computers with low quality graphics by today’s standards.
Mega Boy is just that kind of game, or at least the theme that is approached by the slot is inspired by a title from that period. It’s a made up game that we’re getting in this case, so you didn’t play it as a kid.
The action seems to feature the same kind of action like in Mario, and there are a couple of characters that also get important feature roles inside. The design is of the same type of quality as the one you would’ve found in games of this type in the past, but it’s pleasant nonetheless and fun enough to play.
Developer
iSoftBet offers 50+ slot machines right now, and many of them can be quite entertaining. The design is not always the best one though, so they often rely more on features and multipliers to make the slots more appealing.
They also have a couple of games that are done under license, but not too many. Prizes are not very good usually, something we can see in Mega Boy as well.
How To Play It
The betting options are all located at the bottom of the screen. You use 25 coins to activate just as many paylines, and that’s something that you can’t modify. You just decide on the coin value, which is changed from the buttons placed on the left of the Spin button. You can use up to $0.20 for one coin/line bet, so the most you can spend in a single round is $5.
Since the design of the game is inspired by 8 bit arcade titles, it will look very similar to early games, the ones you would’ve played in the 80s perhaps.
Some might not find such a look very appealing, but I loved it. The symbols which are used here give you a mix of playing cards (with eyes that make them appear alive), a few characters from Mega Boy and classic icons (bells, sevens, stars, hearts, cherries).

Special Features
The base game symbols offer you only wilds, but some of them can do extra things when they appear in certain positions. The Wild Cloud symbol is the only wild to act just as a substitute, a way for you to get more winning combinations formed.
The slot has 10 free spins which can be triggered, and this is done with help from the character wild symbols. They’re regular wilds most of the time, but when they appear in the middle position on a reel they will give you the 10 free games and one randomly chosen power-up that you can take advantage of.
The Monster symbol will give you a power-up which for the duration of the free spins can bring you 2x multipliers, wilds which multiply themselves in horizontal and vertical mode to another four positions, expanding wilds or certain symbols which turn into wilds when they make an appearance.
The Hero symbol is also used for the same purpose, and its power-up is somewhat different from the one offered by the Monster. The free spins can take advantage of 3x multipliers, of wilds which turn either horizontal or vertical neighbors into extra wilds, or you can get random icons that also become wilds.
Maximum Payouts
With a maximum total bet of $5, expecting huge prizes is not a good idea from any game. This one pays at most 2,000 coins in the base game, which means $400. This might triple to $1,200 during free spins, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Summary
The game has its advantages, and I’m certain that players that got started on computers in the 80s will find it a good slot machine to spend some time on. The free spins can be interesting, but the payouts are very low.
